Yvonne M. Mowery, MD, PhD, DABR is a physician scientist and Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at University of Pittsburgh/Hillman Cancer Center, specializing in head and neck cancer, genetically engineered mouse models of cancer, and studying novel combinations of radiation therapy with immunotherapy. Her laboratory focuses on studying the head and neck cancer pathogenesis and mechanisms of overcoming radiation and immunotherapy resistance in HNSCC, with a particular interest in DNA damage response pathways. She is the PI of a multi-institutional phase I ETCTN trial evaluating an ATR inhibitor, pembrolizumab and radiotherapy for recurrent head and neck cancer, as well the Radiation Oncology PI for an international phase II trial evaluating the addition of pembrolizumab to surgery and radiotherapy for high-risk soft tissue sarcoma. Her research is supported by a K08 Career Development Award from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, a Damon Runyon Clinical Investigator Award, and Stand Up To Cancer. She was awarded a 2021 American Society for Clinical Investigation Young Physician-Scientist Award, and she previously served as the Associate Center Director for Radioimmunotherapy for the Duke Cancer Institute Center of Cancer Immunotherapy.
