Gabriela Roque Oliveira Nomura is an undergraduate researcher at the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Austin. Her work involves modeling dynamic medical imaging and building AI deep learning architectures to predict cardiopulmonary disease progression and better inform treatment planning. Gabriela is also co-chair for Baylor College of Medicines Advisory Council for Teenager and Young-Adult Cancer Prevention in Houston, TX. She has received a research supplement from the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health to develop automated deep-learning methods for 4DCT segmentation and to calculate functional lung metrics to improve radiotherapy treatment planning. With her strong interest in medical research, Gabriela plans to pursue an MD and further specialize in machine learning techniques to improve medical prognosis for cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy.
