Biosketch Jan P Seuntjens, Ph.D., FCCPM, FAAPM, FCOMP
Dr. Jan Seuntjens (Ph.D, 1991, University of Ghent, Belgium) is a medical radiation physicist, full professor, James McGill research chair (honor), Director of Medical Physics at McGill University and Senior Scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. He has a background in radiation dosimetry and Monte Carlo simulations and has been deeply involved in the work behind radiotherapy calibration protocols. He is actively involved with numerous committees in the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), the IAEA and the International Commission for Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU). Seuntjens has co-authored over 270 journal papers, technical reports and books and is Fellow of the AAPM, the Canadian Organization of Physicists in Medicine (COMP) and the Canadian College of Medical Physicists (CCPM). He is one of the key-authors of the classical textbook “Fundamentals of Ionizing Radiation Dosimetry” (Andreo, Nahum, Burns and Seuntjens, ed. Wiley). His involvement with machine learning and AI has been through projects learning from medical images and clinical parameters for the prediction of cancer outcomes in radiation medicine. At this meeting he is representing AAPM Science Council in the Cancer Breakthrough Session.
