My clinical research mainly deals with the development and validation of novel biomarkers and prognostic instruments for older patients with head-and-neck cancer in order to improve patient care of these vulnerable patients. In this context, I am Junior-PI of an international cohort study that investigated the value of concomitant systemic treatment in older head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma patients undergoing radiotherapy (NCT05337631). My main preclinical research focusses on the role of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in the normal tissue and in the tumor microenvironment of cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy. In this context, I aim to better understand the complex interactions between tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, MSCs and tumor hypoxia during radiotherapy in different cancer types, primarily head-and-neck cancer and glioblastoma.
