Charles Shang, MSc, MB, DABR, FAAPM is the Director of Medical Physics and Radiation Safety Officer at South Florida Proton Therapy Institute. With more than 25 years clinical experience, Dr. Shang holds diplomates of American Board of Radiology in therapeutic radiological physics, diagnostic radiological physics, physics of nuclear medicine. As an affiliate research professor in the Medical Physics Program at Florida Atlantic University, he advised multiple Medical Physics graduate students since 2015.
Dr. Shang received his Medical degree from a privilege Medical University in Shanghai, China, a Master of Science in Radiation Health/Medical Physics from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Postdoctoral Diploma in Radiological and Medical Physics from Rosalind Franklin University Medical School in Chicago.
Prior to his current position from 2018, Dr. Shang was the director of Medical Physics of Radiation Oncology and Imaging at Lynn Cancer Institute, Boca Raton and worked there since 1993. As an active member of AAPM, Dr. Shang had leadership posts in PIPSC, Asian Oceanic Affairs Subcommittee, serviced in of International Affairs Committee, International Information subcommittee, Work Group on Particle Beams, and was a past president of Florida chapter.
Dr. Shang was instrumental to the earliest clinical adaption of the modern radioactive seed implant, MLC based IMRT, virtual reality simulation, robotic 6D alignment, CyberKnife MLC, and 360º-rotational ProBeam Compact™ scanning proton therapy system. As a He loves to teach Radiobiology graduate courses and published numerous scientific papers and is a frequent speaker at domestic and international conferences.
