Dr. Daniel Low earned his Ph.D. in Physics in 1988 and joined M.D. Anderson Cancer Center as a postdoctoral fellow to transition to Medical Physics. Upon completing his fellowship, he joined Washington University in 1990 as an Instructor. He spent almost 20 years at Washington University, responsible for clinical duties and developing an academic career. He was promoted through the academic ranks and in 2005 became the Director of Medical Physics, taking over from James Purdy, his long-time mentor. In 2010, Dr. Low joined UCLA as the Vice Chair of Medical Physics, where he remains today as the Vice Chair of Medical Physics Research and Innovation. Dr. Low has authored almost 300 peer-reviewed publications and has been the PI on 5 NIH R01 grants. His research spanned from IMRT QA, image-guided radiation therapy, MR-guided radiation therapy, and the study and application of human breathing motion and dynamics. Dr. Low has had a long record of volunteering for ASTRO, including advocacy days and acting as the Chair of the Science Council.
