Hiroshi Onishi is Chairman and professor of Department of Radiology in Medicine at the University of Yamanashi and Chief of Radiation Oncology. He received his medical degree from the Chiba University, and completed his Residency at the University of Yamanashi, Japan. Dr. Onishi is one of the leading research experts in the area of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), in particular for the lung cancer. His papers have been evaluated as “highly cited papers” by Thomson Reuter’s company and referred in NCCN guideline of non-small cell lung cancer. He first reported the optimal SBRT dose for stage I non-small cell lung cancer as more than BED of 100Gy and better survival rate of SBRT almost similar to that of surgery. He developed a respiratory monitoring device, named “Abches” that simply and easily achieves good reproducibility of voluntary patient breath-holding and is used in more than 300 radiotherapy facilities in Japan. He received award of Honorary member of American colledge of Radiology in 2024.
