Dr. Beth Neilsen is currently a Chief Resident in Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Science from the Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management within the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She then completed her M.D./Ph.D. training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her Ph.D. research utilized bioinformatic approaches to evaluate and identify novel therapeutic targets in Ras-mutated cancers from a genome-wide siRNA screen under the guidance of Dr. Robert Lewis. This work was supported by a T32 Cancer Center Training Grant as well as an individually awarded NIH/NCI F30 award. After completing her combined M.D./Ph.D. degree, she completed a year of preliminary medical training in Internal Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center before starting her Radiation Oncology residency at the University of California, Los Angeles. She was selected to complete the ABR Holman Research Pathway and joined the Boutros laboratory as a postdoctoral scholar. Her research interests include cancer heterogeneity and cancer evolution particularly in response to radiation treatment. Her current work is supported by the Data Science for Precision Health T15 training grant and an ASCO Young Investigator Award.
