Sewit Teckie, MD, MBA is a radiation oncologist, health system leader, and researcher. She is System Chief of Oncology at NYC Health and Hospitals where she is responsible for planning and implementation of cancer-related programs for the largest municipal public health system in the country. She is also Director of Head-and-Neck Radiation Oncology at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn where her clinical practice is focused on head-and-neck cancers and brain tumors. She is a Clinical Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
Dr. Teckie is on the Editorial Board of several publications including the Red Journal. She is a frequent reviewer of journal manuscripts, and she is an invited speaker at local, regional, and national conferences. She takes pride in mentoring and supporting medical students and residents.
Dr. Teckie’s family is originally from Eritrea in East Africa. She was born in Eswatini and grew up in Ottawa, Canada and Yonkers, NY. She attended Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. Her internship and residency were at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where she was Chief Resident. She holds an executive MBA from Columbia University where she received the Dean’s Award with Distinction and was selected as graduation speaker. She lives in New York City with her husband and three children.
