Dr. Sara Alcorn is a radiation oncologist who specializes in the treatment of breast tumors, sarcomas, and metastatic disease. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Biological Sciences and Sociology. She attended medical school at Harvard University, where she also earned a Master in Public Health, concentrating on Family and Community Health. Dr. Alcorn completed residency in Radiation Oncology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she served as the chief resident during her fifth year of oncology training. Thereafter, she earned a PhD in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and worked for 7 years as a faculty member and Clinical Director in their Department of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences. In 2022, she joined the University of Minnesota Medical School as an Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Clinical Strategy in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr. Alcorn focuses her research on the improvement of clinical outcomes and quality of life in the fields of breast, sarcoma, and palliative radiotherapy. She has investigated means for improving detection of radiation skin reaction across the range of skin tones, radiotherapy access and identification of “radiotherapy deserts” among historically underserved communities, and statistical tools aimed at improving treatment of patients with painful bone metastases. Dr. Alcorn is actively involved in clinical trials for breast, sarcoma, and palliative radiotherapy.
