Maria Werner-Wasik, MD, FASTRO, is Walter J. Curran Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and Enterprise Vice-Chair for Radiation Oncology at Jefferson Health in Philadelphia, PA, US, as well as the Contact Principal Investigator for NRG Oncology at Jefferson. Dr. Werner-Wasik graduated from medical school in Wroclaw, Poland, and completed her training in radiation oncology at Tufts/New England Medical Center in Boston and at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She frequently lectures on lung cancer at national and international conferences such as the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) World Congress. She was the Lung Track Leader for the annual scientific ASTRO meeting and has served as an American Board of Radiology core group Oral Examiner for the Radiation Oncology Specialty Board examination. Dr. Werner-Wasik was Publications Chair of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) and is member of the RTOG Foundations Board, as well as Chair of the NRG Oncology Protocol Operations Monitoring (POM) Committee and a member of its Research Strategy Committee. She has been awarded several "Best Doctor" titles (Philadelphia Top Doctor; Americas Top Doctor for Cancer; Americas Top Doctor, America’s Top Oncologist, Top 1% of Physicians in America) and has over 180 publications on topics of lung and brain cancers. Most recently she has been the lead physician for the MR-guided Radiation Therapy (MRgRT) program at Jefferson Health.
