James "Nick" Trosper is a medical student at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, expected to graduate in May 2025. He has a unique background as a former U.S. Navy Submarine Warfare Officer and Nuclear Propulsion Officer, where he served from 2012 to 2021, reaching the rank of Lieutenant.
Nick earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 2012 before pursuing his medical degree. His military experience includes specialized training in nuclear engineering, emergency response, and medical operations. As a Military Instructor, he taught graduate-level courses on Submarine Operations.
Currently, Nick is actively involved in oncology research and leadership roles within the University of Kentucky Oncology Interest Group. He has presented research on topics such as radiosurgery for trigeminal neuralgia and cellular bioenergetics. Nick is seeking a residency position in Radiation Oncology, aiming to leverage his military leadership experience and expertise in high-pressure, technical environments.
Outside of academics, Nick demonstrates a commitment to community service through volunteer work with Hope Lodge and youth soccer coaching. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society for Radiation Oncology.
