Ann Klopp is a Professor of Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She leads the gynecologic section in the Department of Radiation Oncology and serves as the Director of Brachytherapy. Her clinical research is focused on the use of advanced radiation techniques to reduce toxicity from radiation treatment and improve outcomes for women with gynecologic cancers. She has expanded the use of intraprocedural CT and MRI for brachytherapy to facilitate the use of advanced brachytherapy applicators. Additionally, she led a phase III randomized trial demonstrating that IMRT reduces the toxicity of pelvic radiation. Dr. Klopp’s lab is focused on understanding the effects of the microenvironment on the biology of gynecologic cancers, including host stromal cells which infiltrate cancers and microbial organisms which infect mucosal cancers. She co-leads the MD Anderson moonshot program for HPV cancers aimed at improving outcomes through targeted molecular and immunologic treatments. She has national leadership roles including co-chairing the corpus committee at NRG, serving as the chairman of the board for the American Brachytherapy Society, and chairing the oral boards for gynecologic cancers through the American Board of Radiology.
