Dr. Halasz is a radiation oncologist specializing in the care of patients with central nervous system (CNS) tumors. She is Professor and Gerlich Family Endowed Chair in Neuro-oncology at the University of Washington (UW)/Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Dr. Halasz serves as co-director for the UW Alvord Brain Tumor Center and Gamma Knife Center. Her research centers around advanced radiotherapy techniques for patients with brain tumors and inequities in healthcare access. She is the principal investigator (PI), collaborating with Native researchers and community partners, for a multi-year grant titled INROADS (Increasing Native Radiation Oncology Access: Disparities and Solutions). She serves as site PI on multiple clinical trials for patients with brain tumors. Dr. Halasz has co-authored over 60 publications and been invited to give numerous educational lectures, including visiting professorships and the ASTRO refresher course. She has previously served as an associate editor for the CNS section of the Red Journal. Dr. Halasz is firmly committed to education and mentoring, serving as the UW Radiation Oncology Residency program director for the past seven years. She is the proud recipient of the UW Radiation Oncology Faculty Teaching Award and UW Medicine Cares Award. Dr. Halasz enjoys serving the community in Seattle, where she grew up and now lives with her husband and three children, ages 9 to 15.
