Gabriella Macchia is the Director of the Radiotherapy Department at the Responsible Research Hospital in Campobasso, Italy. She treats cancer patients, particularly those with gastrointestinal, breast, and gynecological tumors.
She is a professor of Radiation Oncology at the Catholic University of Rome, Potenza and Campobasso and, since 2019, she is also the Responsible Research Hospitals deputy Scientific Director.
For almost 25 years, Dr. Macchia has worked in the fields of gynecological oncology and radiotherapy. Currently, she serves as the national point of contact for the Italian Radiation Oncology groups for both the Italian Association of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology (AIRO) Gynecology Study Group and the Multicenter Italian Trials in Ovarian cancer and gynecologic malignancies (MITO) group.
Over the course of her career in oncology, Dr. Macchia co-authored over 280 papers, about 80 of which were on gynaecological themes. Scopus reports that she has an H-index of 30. She participated in the radiotherapy section of the evaluation of national gynaecology guidelines, and she was recently appointed as a radiation oncologist for the study of the new ESGO-ESTRO-ESP endometrial cancer guidelines.
She handled both scientific production and clinical initiatives for radiation oncologist groups, providing strategic guidance. Dr. Macchia, a firm believer in the power of technology to accelerate progress in healthcare, recently led Italian Radiation Oncology groups in harnessing data science and intelligent automation for insight generation, so that teams work as a united front, with expertise and purpose, to solve the worlds most difficult health challenges.
