University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Institute
Salt Lake City, UT
I am an Professor and Clinical Director of the Orrin G. Hatch Proton Center for the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Utah, where I’ve been a member of the faculty since 2010. I am currently the primary radiation oncologist in my department to care for our pediatric and breast cancer patients as well as providing care for adult patients with sarcoma malignancies.
The theme of my prospective breast cancer research has been to find safely reduce the number of treatment days required to complete a course of radiation. Shortly after starting at Huntsman, I was the co-PI for an investigator-initiated phase II clinical trial on short course post mastectomy radiation. This led to my development of an international phase III cooperative group trial, Alliance A221505, RT CHARM – A phase III Randomized Trial of Hypofractionated Post Mastectomy Radiation with Breast Reconstruction. Locally, I am the PI of a phase II investigator-initiated trial called NOVEMBER, which evaluates a novel 9 day hypofractionated course of whole breast radiation.
I have been active in leadership with the NCI Clinical Trials Network, servicing the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology as Vice Chair Breast Committee, Co-Chair Breast Local Regional Working Group, Member Symptom Intervention Committee and Member Radiation Oncology Committee. I serve as a voting member of NCI’s Breast Cancer Steering Committee’s Breast Oncology Local Disease (BOLD) Task Force and serve as HCI’s institutional Co-PI for Alliance. Within Alliance, I serve on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
