Dr. Chen is the Brandmeyer Chair and Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas. A clinically active radiation oncologist, Dr. Chen specializes in the treatment of genitourinary cancers. Dr. Chen is a health services researcher and clinical trialist with a research focus on comparative effectiveness, quality of life, and issues related to cancer survivorship. Dr. Chen has received many research grants from the NIH, PCORI, Department of Defense, and other funding agencies; and has published more than 170 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Chen also leads or helps lead several ongoing national and international clinical trials in prostate, bladder and testicular cancers; including the recently-opened NRG GU008 "INNOVATE" trial for node-positive prostate cancer (NCT04134260). He has extensive experience reviewing grants for NIH (including R01 grants, Cancer Moonshot, P01, SPORE grants), Department of Defense, PCORI and other organizations.
Dr. Chen earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Kansas, an MD from Harvard Medical School and a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his residency and served as chief resident at the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program.
