A successful clinical practice requires more than clinical knowledge and thoughtful delivery of patient care. The current health care pressures have created a need to understand business fundamentals to advocate for best practices and a fulfilling career. However, medical schools and residency dont commonly teach the business side of medicine, which physicians and other clinicians either learn on the job, through additional formal training, or not at all, relying on administrators to do this work. This session will provide examples of partnership between clinicians and health care administrators, discuss key topics essential for clinicians to understand about the business of medicine, and discuss the processes and procedures by which health care administrators evaluate and manage practices. The goal of the session is to provide tools for clinicians to become partners in this process and provide direction and guidance toward a rewarding experience for clinicians and their patients.
